Many of the challenges we face in the coming decades are global, dynamic, and interlinked with socioeconomic issues - food security, climate change, natural hazards, inequality and more. EOCS is devising new approaches and technologies to apply earth observation to some of these challenges. With extensive experience in app design and development, and maintaining related spatial data infrastructure, we seek the benefits of combining citizen science with more traditional approaches to working with spatial information.
The latest land cover map of Africa has exceptionally high resolution, picking out features at just 20 m. However, its detail does not reflect its accuracy, which lies at 65%, IIASA researchers have discovered, not as high as many had hoped. More
